The catastrophic fires in and around Los Angeles could potentially be one of the country’s most expensive natural disasters and are already among the deadliest in state history. Yardi is supporting two non-profit organizations, Direct Relief and World Central Kitchen, that are aiding the evacuation and recovery efforts for victims. Over 150,000 residents were forced to evacuate, at least 24 people have died (at time of publication, rescuers are continuing to search for missing persons), and thousands of homes, businesses and other structures have been damaged or destroyed. Yardi announced this week that its nonprofit arm is making a contribution of $250,000 to Direct Relief and World Central Kitchen.
Saskatoon Search and Rescue (SSAR), a Yardi-supported nonprofit organization established in 2008 in Saskatoon, SK, is a 100 percent volunteer organization that provides emergency response services throughout the province. Established to assist local authorities in search and rescue operations, it specializes in locating missing persons, supporting community safety initiatives, and offering disaster response for major snowstorms, flooding and wildfires. Members are equipped with essential navigation, first aid and incident management skills. “In the past five years, we have been activated more than 70 times and spent more than 4,500 hours searching for missing persons. This does not include thousands of hours of training and administrative work to operate a thriving and 100% volunteer organization,” explained Sean Taylor, fundraising director, searcher, team leader, search manager, and electronic search specialist instructor for SSAR.

Laura Sacks, a senior manager who works on Yardi’s investment management product suite, celebrates her fifth year at Yardi this November, giving her the benefit of four months in the office with colleagues before the world went remote during the pandemic. Yardi was Sack’s first corporate job, which she applied for with guarded optimism from referrals within the company and a dash of healthy skepticism since she is a relationships-oriented individual, so she was curious about how collaboration and connections would manifest in this space. She immediately found the spirit of exceptional generosity within the Yardi culture!

In addition, they have helped the environment with trash pickup and planting native plants and produce. Here’s a look back from the past year at some of the offices doing their part in the communities they belong to. Pictured are the offices and nonprofits.

Casuta Bucuriei is a housing organization that offers a home for ten children from the state protection system. They provide education, housing and a family life to help them grow into independent adults. Casuta Bucuriei plans to refresh the house interior this year since it was last painted almost ten years ago and will be investing in its courtyard. Funding from Yardi helps Casuta Bucuriei continue to provide a safe environment for its children and allows them to finalize improvements needed in the home. “We are grateful for the continued support provided by Yardi,” said Adela Florean, president of Casuta Bucuriei
Dignity Matters, founded in 2016 in Framingham, MA, provides a reliable supply of free menstrual care and undergarments to homeless and impoverished females. Menstrual care is expensive, rarely donated and can’t be purchased with SNAP/Food Stamps, WIC, or any other federal benefit programs – so tens of thousands of women in Massachusetts are going without these essential items. Dignity Matters supports 15,000 women and girls monthly through a network of shelters, food pantries, public schools, community colleges and medical clinics.
