Me postulé en línea. Acudí a una entrevista en Starbucks (Vernon, BC) en sep 2016

      Entrevista

I applied for the Assistant Store Manager (ASM) September 2016 and heard back about a week after submitting my resume from a recruiter. The recruiter sent an email telling me what the process would be: 1.Phone screening (Not to exceed 30 minutes) to see if I was a good fit for Starbucks/ what they were looking for. 2. If the screening went well, then there would be another phone interview (Between 45 to 60 minutes) of behavioral (STAR) questions. 3. In person interview with DM(s) at a local Starbucks upon successful previous interview. I passed the screening and before getting off the phone, she had sent a link for me to schedule my next interview. My next interview was about a week and a half later and I studied behavioral questions/read other people's glassdoor interview experiences for the ASM position. It'll help a lot if you practice answering questions in STAR format (Situation/Task/Action/Results) and can give insight to what you learned from your experience or what you might do again if you had to do it all over again. Be honest if you have never been in a situation or if you can apply it to school instead of work. The recruiter finished my interview in about 30 minutes, which was a sign that it did not go well. When asked if I had any questions, I asked when I would hear back if I were to make it to the final interview. The recruiter told me she felt that I would start off as a really strong candidate as a Shift Supervisor and be able to work my way up to being ready for an ASM between 6 months to a year. I have been working as a supervisor in a production environment for over a year now not dealing with customers. She asked if I would be alright starting off as a Shift Supervisor instead, which I was absolutely delighted to do. I have always wanted to work for this company and felt that they saw value in me because they tried to get me a different position (as opposed to letting me go because I didn't get the job I applied for). She asked for my resume to pass along to the three store managers in my area and the next day I received a call asking to come in for an interview for the SS position. I came with my resume 15 minutes early. The baristas will ask you if you'd like a drink while you wait and I highly suggest you take up the offer to show that you love coffee! I just did a grande pike place, nothing expensive. The store manager that I interviewed with was extremely friendly and I liked how it felt more like a conversation with emotion/reaction as opposed to the recruiter (who was very deadpan and I had no idea where my responses were taking me through the interview process). I was asked a few questions and the manager said she wanted to bring me on board for SS. I about cried with happiness that the interviews were over and I made it!

      Entrevista

Phone interview with a recruiter who expects STAR style answers. The questions are pretty standard and easy to find online, so prep isn’t hard. Honestly, the toughest part, if you’re already an internal employee, is getting the interview in the first place. You really have to show your managers that you’re serious about moving into the role.

Give me an example of a time you solicited feedback and encouraged the sharing of ideas by your time or group of colleagues. (What actions did you take with that information and what was the result?)

For an external hire, pretty normal for an interview. For an internal hire, they basically want you to answer as if you were a robot. They want you to answer by telling a story in the STAR format (Situation, Task, Action, Result)

You will be asked scenario questions. Answer based on your experience not what you would have otherwise done. Be specific and paint the picture as if you are telling a story.
