very organized from day one, each hiring manager was very transparent about the interview process and series of interviews, beginning with a casual phone call lasting about 15 minutes, a follow up email was sent to me shortly after. The interview process was pretty straight-forward. I applied online and about a week later was contacted by a recruiter to set up a phone interview with the hiring manager. We talked for about 45 minutes - first he talked a little bit about Gusto and what he was looking for in a candidate for the role, then he asked about my experience. It was really fun talking to him and I felt completely energized by our conversation. After that phone call, the recruiter reached out again to set up an in person interview, which we scheduled for the following week. A couple days before the in person interview, the recruiter called me again for interview prep - that call lasted about 20 minutes and she went over the roles and responsibilities of each person I would be talking to at Gusto and recommended the types of questions and topics to discuss with them respectively. The interview itself was with 4 different people (a cross-functional partner, the hiring manager, a peer, and a Learning and Development team member) and lasted 3.5 hours. First the recruiter gave me a tour of the space, then I met with each person 1:1 in a conference room for about 45 minutes each. They took notes on a computer and seemed to be filling out a form - they'd ask a question from the screen, then type as I answered. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming, and seemed to genuinely want to get to know me. It was a very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere and even though it was really long, I did not feel "drained" by the end of the interview. It simply felt like I was having really great conversations, one after another. A week after my interview, I was offered the job!

The interview and hiring process - while intensive - was an absolute pleasure. They absolutely asked the tough questions about my experience, and expected me to ask my own questions, but if you come prepared to speak about your experience and the career progressions you are trying to make you will have nothing but great conversations. The interview process was spread between different interviews, with one hovering around the four hour mark, but the whole time I was completely aware of the steps being taken, where I was at in the process, and what was expected of me moving forward. Never did I feel out-to-drift by my recruiter. Great experience.
