In honor of #WomensHistoryMonth and #IWD2023, we’re reflecting on the work our community is doing to improve the financial health of women, particularly our more than $100M commitment to advancing gender equity. As part of this commitment, PayPal employees from across 22 countries pledged to provide more than 10,000 hours of capacity-building and skill-based volunteer services to charities advancing gender equality by 2026. We’re excited to highlight Amy K., Director, Integrations and Strategic Enablement for the PayPal Web Team in our Employee Spotlight this week. Amy has been with PayPal for more than 12 years. In her current role as a Principal Product Manager, she leads teams responsible for PayPal’s website integration efforts, cross-segment website initiatives, and our overall website globalization process. “It’s been an exciting and enriching journey for over a decade, and the opportunities to create lasting impact continue to this day,” says Amy. When asked to reflect on her favorite Leadership Principle, Amy shares, “I always come back to ‘Collaboration." Collaboration is integral to our organization and is a pillar of Amy’s success within the company and on her team. “The ability to bring large groups of people together with a common understanding to work in a unified, harmonious way to achieve something truly impressive,” she says. Maggie Lena Walker’s life was one spent breaking down barriers. A Black woman born in 1864, she began her career as a teacher and went on to open a department store, finance, and run a newspaper, and in 1903, she became the first Black woman – and the first woman – to charter and lead a U.S. bank. Walker was a businesswoman and civil rights activist that dedicated her life to improving the lives of those in her community, leaving behind a remarkable legacy. To celebrate Walker’s contributions and those of women who are carrying on her legacy today by creating opportunities for economic advancement in underserved communities, PayPal established the Maggie Lena Walker Award. The award includes one category for Achievement and another for Emerging Leaders. PayPal ranked #123 on Forbes’ second annual World’s Top Female-Friendly Companies list, which recognizes the companies leading the way in supporting women inside and outside of the workforce. To determine the list, Forbes and Statista asked employees to evaluate their company on supportive policies for women in the workplace, balanced recruitment, and related topics. This is PayPal’s second year on the list, moving up 84 spots from #207 in 2021.
