At Matrix, we know that delivering high-quality in-home care is meaningful work, but it can also be emotionally heavy, fast-paced and sometimes isolating. That’s why psychological safety is a priority for our clinical teams. Here are a few everyday ways our Matrix clinicians can build psychological safety for themselves and each other: • Check In With Yourself Take a quick pause during your day. Even 60 seconds can help reset your mind and reduce stress buildup. • Speak Up — Your Voice Matters If something feels unclear or concerning, ask questions or raise the issue. Honest communication strengthens teamwork and supports safer, more effective care. • Stay Connected While home visits can feel solitary, you’re never alone. Lean on your Matrix teammates, supervisors, and support channels. Sharing challenges and wins helps remind us that we’re part of a strong, connected care team. • Celebrate Small Wins Progress matters. Recognizing a smooth visit, a meaningful member interaction, or simply getting through a tough day builds confidence and resilience. At Matrix, we’re committed to fostering a culture where clinicians feel safe, supported, and empowered because caring for others begins with caring for yourself.
Matrix clinicians encounter hidden hazards every day from broken pavements to slippery floors and cluttered walkways. Slips, trips, and falls are more than minor mishaps, and they can cause serious, lasting injuries. While much attention goes to preventing patient falls, clinicians must also protect themselves. Most incidents can be avoided by staying alert, watching your path, and being mindful of your footing. Simple prevention strategies can help us all navigate changing environments safely by protecting both ourselves and the patients we care for. Wear Proper Footwear • Choose non-slip, closed-toe shoes with good support. • Avoid sandals, flip-flops, or slick soles. • Keep shoelaces tied. Assess Your Surroundings • Watch for uneven surfaces, stairs, clutter, or pets. • Use handrails when available. • Limit distractions like phone use while walking. Use Safe Body Mechanics • Carry equipment in a bag or backpack. • Keep hands free for balance. • Don’t carry items that block your view.
As hurricane season is upon us and additional tropical storms are developing, healthcare communities across the region are reminded of the importance of preparation. Even when storms don’t make direct landfall, they can still cause dangerous conditions bringing heavy winds, flooding, storm surges and rip currents that threaten both safety and health. At Matrix, we are committed to supporting patients, caregivers, and communities by sharing essential preparedness information. Protecting yourself begins with planning ahead and practicing safety before, during and after a storm. 1. Have a plan: Stay informed through trusted state and local news outlets to anticipate how emergencies may impact you, your patients and their needs. 2. Follow evacuation guidance: Adhere to state and local authority orders and help patients understand when evacuation is recommended or required. 3. Stay connected: Maintain communication with patients and loved ones. Share your availability and location with your care team when possible. 4. Assess surroundings: Before entering a patient’s home check for downed power lines, flooding or structural damage that could pose risks to you and those in your care. 5. Avoid floodwaters: Do not attempt to walk or drive through flooded areas. Beyond personal safety, encourage patients to avoid these hazards which may contain hidden dangers or contamination.

Recent weather events remind us that emergencies can arise with little to no warnings making preparation a must. Even after a storm has passed, floodwater can remain hazardous. Roads, bridges and infrastructures may be weakened beneath the surface and hidden dangers can linger in the water long after skies have cleared. Whether you're protecting your family, your community or your patients, now is the time to prepare. Flood Safety Tips: Monitor: Stay informed with trusted local news and weather alerts/updates. Avoid: Never walk, swim or drive through floodwaters. Evacuate: Move to higher ground immediately if instructed by officials. Use weather apps, preparedness checklists and local emergency alerts to stay ready especially with hurricane season on the horizon. Let’s protect what matters most through awareness, planning and action.

April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month – a timely reminder of the importance of staying safe on the road, especially for healthcare professionals. Road safety is essential for Matrix providers, especially given the significant time they spend traveling between patients' homes. It’s important to recognize the serious risks associated with distracted driving and how those risks can be even higher for health care professionals on the move. As healthcare professionals, our duty to care for others begins the moment we get behind the wheel. We’re committed to staying focused, safe, and fully present — on the road and with every patient we serve.
