Several weeks after submitting an online application and resume without hearing anything from the company, I received an email thanking me for taking the time to interview for the role and giving them an opportunity to get to know me better and informing me they are not moving forward with my application. I didn't have an interview with them, and was never approached about an interview, so they either sent the wrong cookie-cutter rejection email or they meant to invite me to a screening interview but never sent me that invitation.
