Applied through Indeed.com, received an email from recruiter a few days after, passed 1st round phone screen which went pretty much same as previous posts. 2nd step is a javascript code test (cannot disclose details as asked by Yelp) which is supposed to finish in 5-6 hours, I turned it in the next day and it got passed. 3rd step is skype interview which I assume is the usually talked about "2nd round" by previous posts, I prepared a lot on data structure and algorithm, but none of those questions were asked, the question instead was to create code to report javascript exceptions to remote server. Although I have many years of javascript experience and created successful front end applications, I was not able to answer specificly questions such as what JS error message will be for a certain wrong javascript code, the next day I received an "NO" email.

First an initial phone screen with recruiter. After asking me some basic information, she gave me a link to the online coding challenge. The online coding challenge is easy, but covers many aspect of Computer Science, like Linux knowledges, algorithm knowledges, HTTP knowledges etc. Then I was scheduled to a 45-mins interview with an engineer via Skype. Asked about backgrounds according your resume, just common chatting. Then wrote code on an online editor. The coding question is very basic. I was asked to write in JavaScript. Then scheduled to 45*2mins back-to-back Skype interviews with an engineer and a manager from Yelp Consumer team. The process is somehow very similar to the first Skype interview. Except for that the coding questions were more challenging. You can choose whatever language you want, and I still stood with JavaScript. Overall experience was very positive. The recruiter was very responsive.
