Sometimes I think that interviewers forget that the interview is not only for them to see if the interviewee is a good fit, but for the interviewee to see what the company is like. I interviewed with the Co-Executive Director for the Program Associate for Advocacy & Communications position. Upon showing up, it was clear that she had never seen my resume before. After about 5 questions that would have been answered by simply reading my resume, she gave me a surprise 40 minute writing exam where I was tasked with writing "something" about "a trans-formative moment in your life." This was the only guidance given. After the 40 minute test, she came back in and said good-bye. I asked her what the process looked like going forward and she said that she had too many people coming in to send out rejection emails and I would only know anything if I make it to the next round. She knew that I traveled over an hour to be there, took time off my current job, took a surprise writing test, and not even a simple follow up email? If this is a preamble to how I would be treated as an employee, then this is definitely not a place I want to work. On the upside, everybody else I interacted with were very friendly.
