I did two interviews over zoom after sending in several writing samples. They mentioned how much they like they samples when they set up my interviews but when I got to my second interview the person I spoke with spent the majority of the time telling me why he didn't like my sample and didn't want to hire me. Totally fine. Just wish I didn't have to go through two calls to get that info.
