Entrevista
I have been working in the art industry for a few years by now, and never have I ever had an interview so bizarre and unprofessional. It started with the interviewer being half an hour late. After connected on the phone, we greeted each other and he said, "talk to me." I was confused for a second. Then he explained that he wants me to sell myself. I went on talking about my previous experiences, but he continuously interrupted me every 30 seconds. I couldn't even finish telling him what I did at my last job. Then he asked me questions that were just too generic to answer. I asked him to elaborate on the question, he said it was a simple yes or no question. I told him there are terms and conditions that come with his question, without knowing the specific conditions, I felt irresponsible to "just answer it." He thanked me for my time then we disconnected. I don't think I got the job, but I don't think I want to work for him either.
I applied online and got a response within a week or two. The interview was in person at the gallery with the owner and his assistant who was an Asian woman. All of the employees there were also young Asian women which seemed like a red flag to me. The owner immediately remarked about my physical appearance which made me uncomfortable.
The owner continually interrupted me and dismissed my experience as inconsequential and "not real life."
He bragged about his gallery and catalog collection, which was pretty average and poorly designed.
I was offered the position a week or so later but I turned it down. Overall seemed like a toxic environment with an undercurrent of ulterior motives.
