Had to make sure I could get credit from my university for the internship in order to apply. Sent my resume and had an interview scheduled with the head of counseling services. The interview consisted of a forty-five-minute conversation regarding my resume (involving community work and leadership positions), what I knew about domestic violence, if I knew what trauma response communication meant, and just how willing I was to do all the required training to deal with very personal matters of individuals seeking help. Once accepted, had to do various paperwork which involved background check, insurance policy from your university, and training involving IDHS, 40-hour domestic violence training, and other trainings involving technicalities of the job.
