I interviewed for a research assistant position at Virginia Tech's Computer Science Department last month. The process included a lab tour, faculty interview with technical questions, and research presentation. The professors were welcoming, and the collaborative atmosphere impressed me. After thorough preparation and authentic responses, I received an acceptance call a week later. The experience confirmed that Virginia Tech values both technical expertise and cultural fit.

Interview was very casual and you should do research on the lab prior to interviewing. Questions involve interests and easier the higher your GPA is. They do not expect you to have a ton of experience it is more so how much they can depend on you.

It was a group Zoom interview over several hours. Not super difficult, just time consuming. Met with different positions on the team and they asked relatively the same, expected interview questions, but it was nice to get a perspective from each person.
