      Entrevista para Advanced Development Program

      Solicitud

Me postulé a través de un reclutador. El proceso tomó 5 semanas. Acudí a una entrevista en Vanguard (Scottsdale, AZ) en oct 2014

      Entrevista

I was contacted by a Vanguard recruiter during my senior year of college and asked why I hadn't applied for the position in the Advanced Development Program for after I graduated and that I would be perfect for it. Then, he conducted an hour long phone interview with only behavior based questions. "Tell me about a time when.." I am NOT a finance major and was slightly confused why they had not only been interested in a non-business major for but gone so far as scouted me out and begged me to apply. The interview was not conversational and the recruiter repeatedly bragged about how many people they had applying to the prestigious program. He told me "not to feel bad if I didn't get a call back to final interviews at the Scottsdale location." I hung up the phone very confused because he was the one that had practically begged me to apply? 2 days later, I received a call that I would be making the drive to Scottsdale for this 8 hour long interview process. I was with 3 other finance majors who are all roughly 25 years old with extensive finance background and find myself even more confused. Why am I here? They spend the first 4 hours bragging about Vanguard and having panels after panels of people telling you why Vanguard was so great. They reminded you that even in your down time during this 8 hour interview, you were still being watched and graded. They stressed asking questions and that doing so was how they gauged our interest and engagement so much that the four of us probably asked over 100 questions that day. By the end of the day, we were so desperate for a new question to ask these interviewers/panels, one of the men interviewing spouted out "What are your policies on maternity leave?".. They had so many people come in and try and sell you on Vanguard but very little time was even addressed regarding the VADP program. They tried to say that so many different positions/ people come out of it that they don't have very much specific information about it, but I was just left confused. What exactly did I apply for? They made sure to mention the gym and cafeteria they were adding to their facility but were vague on what we'd actually be doing during our 15 month training period? They also had 2 different in person interviews that asked me the same exact questions as the phone interview, however were asked despite the identical questions to come up with completely different examples so that each interview got to know me differently. I do have to say they were very kind and paid for mileage and meals that it took to drive down to this interview, but I was left in complete bewilderment when I left. It felt like they were just asking absolutely everybody they could get their hands on to apply so they could spout off some statistic "We only took this absurdly small percentage of applicants". I would rather they had left me out of it and not wasted the 6 hour drive there and back, the 8 hour interview, and the crazy amount of time and stress I took to prep for the interview, that it took me to apply.
