I was contacted by one of their HR. I made it clear since the beginning that I played with the Go language but never used it in a professional context. They said it doesn’t matter and we agreed I would do a home assignment. The home assignment was 3 GO problems. I was given a test suite for each one of them and I had to write a program based on those. There was no other requirement. Two of the test suites had ambiguous tests, I didn’t ask for clarification, my bad. I wrote the 3 programs so all tests would pass in my free time (taking it away from my family). The company later told me that they would not continue with me. I requested and received the feedback. I agreed with a few points of the feedback but I was surprised by two things: there was not one positive thing said about my work, most of the mistakes were due to my not being familiar with GO (which I made it clear since the beginning). I pointed this out to the HR person and the response was that the reviewer always gets info on the person who does the home assignment, so that might not have been the case. It’s weird that the reviewer is able the evaluate my knowledge in Go better than me. So in the end they were looking with someone with experience in Go.
