It was a somewhat long interview process (which is seemingly the standard these days) - a phone screening, one round with the hiring manager, a second with a panel, and then a writing exercise. I got through all of these stages over the course of three to four months and never heard back with a final decision. It was odd being left completely in the dark after getting through all those rounds. I unfortunately also never received feedback on the writing exercise which was submitted at the same time as the final panel interview. When I checked in with HR for an update I was told to hang tight and that a selection had not yet been made… I never heard back after that. I was really hoping to secure the role since the org does meaningful work. The worst part was not being told anything after all that effort and prep. C’est la vie.

After submitting my assignment, I didn’t hear from the team for two weeks. I reached out asking for an update, and they said they hadn’t made a decision, but would follow up in a week or so. It’s now nearly three months later and I still never got a formal rejection. After the hours I spent interviewing and working on the assignment, I feel my time was very much disrespected without the courtesy of a decision update.
