The first conversation with the recruiter felt a bit disengaged, though overall, it was okay. The second stage with the Engineering Manager was much better, as the discussion was pleasant.
However, the feedback I received afterward felt completely disconnected from our conversation. I spent about 15 minutes discussing my focus on the product, the business impact of decisions I’ve made, and collaboration with teams to drive results. Yet, the feedback suggested that I was overly focused on technical details—something we barely even touched on during the interview.
This left me feeling confused and disappointed. It gave the impression that they might not have been fully engaged with what I was saying or perhaps already had another candidate in mind. While I understand not every process results in an offer, this experience felt unprofessional and frustrating.

4 Stages: Initial Technical Interview with Tech Lead -> Code Test / Systems Design Interview -> Culture Interview -> ?
First call with the Tech Lead was great, felt very comfortable and was able to go over prior experience.
Second Stage was a react / express live coding test. Requested implementation was simple enough and I was able to step through the implementation process and talk to areas that would need revision to 'productionise' (their words) - this part had a 30 minute limit and felt very rushed. The final 10 minutes was an assortment of specific questions such as discuss 'cursor vs offset pagination', discuss 'why you would store x data in noSQL vs relational db' and otherwise just left the conversation open to me discussing what else could be done to the codebase or for cloud deployment.
Ultimately I didn't make it through to the next round. Although they did provide feedback, I can understand why the role has been reposted 4 times over the last month; the feedback highlighted specific implementation questions outside of my recent experience (eg. using GraphQL) and areas that simply weren't discussed. I get the sense that they are looking for a specific engineer personality to match the individuals in the technical interview.
