Set up a phone call interview for an undergraduate internship position with two interviewers and was asked for a self introduction. When I said I would be interested in pursuing a PharmD but am exploring my options, they told me that PharmD's become pharmacists. I told them that PharmD's could also work in industry and I am leaning towards working in industry, but I am still exploring my options, which is why I was going to shadow pharmacists over the summer. They told me that they posted on Handshake that their position starts in the July, so I apologized and told them I must have overlooked it. I checked, and they actually did not post that information on Handshake. One interviewer told me with extreme attitude to "get a glass of water and just think for a minute" and then proceeded to tell me that if I was not able to commit to the job starting July, that I would be "wasting their time" because they had "so many applicants" and they were "busy". They also told me that I am not a good fit if I wanted to pursue a clinical route, even though I told them I was still exploring my options. I apologized again and told them that I would not be available to work starting from July, at which point they said "Okay good luck. Bye."

Disgustingly condescending- as I introduced myself in, I already knew this interview was not going to be professional. I was not even sure if I was speaking with the right person, so to confirm, I asked "Is this __?" only to hear back "yeah yeah, I'm going to start off with a couple of questions." At this point, it was fair; maybe they had other applicants lined up which of course is normal for any company seeking interns. The interview then proceeded to become a disaster as they asked what sort of things I am pursuing in order to work in this industry. She could not keep her mouth shut and added her input every few seconds, butting in to say things like "those programs aren't really geared towards this industry", or "how about I give you a few and you can really think over what you want to do because it's really going to be a waste of my time." It's really unfortunate that the company I was so looking forward to intern at was disrespectful, and that wasn't even the worst part of it. I was ultimately asked if I was ready to join from July, which I did not know since it was not posted anywhere on Handshake. She proceeded to then start shouting and ranting about how everyone keeps saying the same thing but the start date is on Handshake and that "you should really check before you apply so you don't waste my time." Like what? Excuse me? If other people are saying the same thing, it probably means it's not on there! I didn't say anything at the time because I didn't have the job pulled up on Handshake, but after the interview, I'm sure as hell I'm lucky to not associate myself with them and to be able to confirm that what she was ranting about was not even posted on the website. Truly a disappointing experience and I hope this company sorts out the interviewing process by hiring someone more professional.

So what are you currently doing to break into this industry?
Oh well, what? It's on there (the person sitting next to her said "I don't know", but she persisted), you really need to look harder... How about we take a break and I'll give you a few to consider your options. I don't want to hire someone who ends up not committing to the job.
