The interviewer is unprofessional, rude and pompous. To give a brief background, I'm an engineer from a big tech company and I have done my fair share of interviewing people + interviewing for jobs. I scheduled an interview with them two weeks ago. When the time came, it was a no show. I waited for around 15 minutes until I had to contact the recruiter and they said there was a failure in their system. Today I had the followup interview with them again. The person was late two minutes, but this is normally within the limits and I will again give them another pass. The interviewer cut straight to the point about asking questions, (which I like because it gives me more time to do the test and more time for questions later). However, the tone of the voice was just rude and demanding. 1. Java trivial questions such as difference between an abstract class and an interface. How does Java do garbage collection? The interviewer constantly cuts me off to ask questions. Maybe I wasn't answering what he wanted, but this was jut plain rude. The connection was rather spotty too so I also couldn't hear his questions clearly. After I gave a high overview of my understanding and admitted I was not familiar with the specifics, he merely smirked and said to move on to the next question. 2. Talk about past experiences Both the technical recruiter and the interview bugged me about a past experience where I stayed on less than a year. I explained but they did not seem to be too satisfied with the answer but moved on quickly. They also tried to ask a lot of questions about my current project, in which some I had to say I am not able to disclose. 3. Coding questions Find me the sum of all value under a specific node in the tree. After asking some basic questions, I proceeded to walk through my algorithm before implementing, but the interviewer kept asking in a rude way, why are you assuming that this is xxx, this is wrong, you are not understanding my question correctly. To be fair, I was making some assumptions and all his questions are valid, but again the attitude was plain obnoxious. I was able to come up with the right solution, which we promptly got into how to scale the system to meet large requirements. Overall, I firmly believe one bad nut does not reflect the overall company. As mentioned before, they were really nice to me when I interviewed onsite 4 years ago. But regardless, due to this experience, I'm not even waiting to see whether I get an invite for onsite at this point and am going to reject them. To the interviewer if you read this, my feedback for you is to tone down the attitude. I can tell you are a brilliant engineer and am probably a fun person to work with once people get to know you, but this was not a very good first impression and can potentially drive away real talent from joining your team.
