Recruiter reaches out on LinkedIn. I had never heard of the company so I scheduled a conversation with HR. Received a generic rejection email a few days later. No insight as to why I was rejected after a fairly pleasant initial conversation. Again, I didn't actively apply to the role and they had reached out to me first.

The recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn. Something about me stood out to them out of the millions of candidates looking for work right now. Was it my profile? I don't think they even asked me for a copy of my resume, so this is unclear. Regardless, I scheduled a conversation, mistakenly thinking they were Trello. I'd never heard of Trellis. I panicked when I realized this and immediately looked at their website. Their "In the News" section and copyright in the footer hadn't been updated since 2023 (as of May 2026). Okay, this didn't bring me any comfort. I also wasn't too impressed with the reviews on Glassdoor (67% negative in the interview section), but at least I was sort of able to verify that they were a real company by coming here. The recruiter was nice and asked some open-ended questions, which I seemed do well on (???). They used an AI notetaker without mentioning it to me, which I thought was kind of rude, but now I understood the reason behind the audio only Zoom call (kind of odd). I asked how long they'd been trying to fill this role and they pointed out that they'd been looking for many months (I suppose their standards are rather high since 2023). I received a generic pass for better fit email a few days later. No genuine reason given. No opportunity for a genuine interview, either.
