      Entrevista

      Interviewing is a two way process where I am observing the company as it checks me out. Though the role presented would have been interesting, certain red flags stood out about the company / people. Sent my CV through to recruitment agent. It took a long time for Trayport to respond for interview initially. The whole process for the role I applied to and what Trayport actually wanted were confusing. I was shown the Infrastructure Consultant role, then suddenly told I would be interviewing for the Manged Services Consultant role - which was not the direction I wanted to take with my career. The external recruitment consultant seemed to think they were the same type of roles (they were completely different and he admitted having no clue on technical job details). I then saw a 3rd role posting on CWJobs by Trayport for a Network Infrastructure engineer. This role matched what they were actually looking for and should have been the only one advertised (which conflicted with the role on their website). From interview, they were looking for someone to join the Operations team but focus mainly on networking - which is where I wanted to go. However their website advertises for someone to work in the IS team (separate to the Operations team). These job descriptions need to be re-written so that candidates know what they are specifically applying for - otherwise it creates distrust and lack of integrity in the application process. Telephone interview - occurred 3 weeks after applying. Was told this would be an hour. They asked about background, experience and some technical questions. Generally fine. It seemed the manager wanted to end the call before the allotted time was up and seemed irritated about my asking questions at the end even though we had not gone over time. This seemed rather unprofessional and a red flag. Was open and honest about what I had done and also where I lacked in skills / experience. Additionally, I asked a valid question and was told it was not relevant - which I countered to explain why it was and the reason it was asked. Again another warning sign. The phone conversation ended with me feeling unsure how I had done and how I felt about the company. Found out I had passed and would have a face-to-face so went with an open mind. 2nd telephone conversation / interview - this was scheduled in after my 1st interview and the face-to-face. Was unexpected and came at the last min but I was flexible. Discussion about the company / role with recruitment manager. Professional and enjoyable conversation. He gave me more clarification as I questioned about the confusion over the three different roles. Felt more positive and excited about progressing and potentially working for the company. Face to face interview - nice office. Friendly ladies who got me a drink and gave me a tour of the office. Met a member of the networking team and the manager - both did my phone interview previously. Technical interview, discussion about the role (was to help the current network guy) and plans for the team. Wasn't sure how well I had done. I was told beforehand that the interview would be 1.5 - 2 hours. We ended up interviewing for an hour before they told me it had gone over time! When we finished, they both immediately left the room. I went out after putting on my coat, shook their hands, no real goodbye given from them as they seemed busy in conversation with each other. I had to see myself out to the elevator. This interview and especially the situation at the end left me unsure of how I had done and also made me feel uncomfortable in coming to work with them. As a result of all the observations on my interview journey, even though the interviewers were great technically - it didn't seem like a welcoming and friendly environment to work in. The interviewers didn't seem to feel all that passionate about the role they were supposed to sell to me or the company - even though Trayport has a whole careers blog and employee development support program. Actions were speaking louder than words. It took 2 weeks of myself having to call to get feedback from Trayport - rather frustrating and felt my time wasn't respected. They rejected me because I didn't have enough networking knowledge. I respect their reasons, but wish my time hadn't been wasted as they knew the extent of my networking experience / knowledge from the 1st interview. Seems the previous candidate in 2017 for this role also had a similar experience in having their time wasted for the same reason.
