Applied via email for a permanent position. As I had specified I was available immediately, I was approached by the HR department to see if I was interested in an interim opportunity (which would have no affect on the permanent role application) that would last until December. I said yes, and a Teams interview was arranged. The interview itself was only 30 minutes (or about 25 minutes after introductions) and was a series of technical questions mixed with a one or two experience-related questions. It felt rushed. My suspicions were confirmed when I received an email which said that I had not been offered the position. They gave a few reasons, but the most baffling one was "he enthusiasm for the Library you expressed in your application didn’t come across as clearly during the interview." which is frankly bizarre (and utterly untrue) because there literally was bam, bam, bam question after question. There was no interest in what I did outside of work. It was - in their own words - a whirlwind interview. I wrote back to explain that I was "unable to reconcile the rejection for the short-term role with the prospect of success for the permanent one" given that whoever had the interim role would have experience of their systems first hand. I felt that throughout the process, very little information about the job and its responsibilities, its technologies, etc. were not conveyed in the fullest. I felt as if I were going in mostly blind.
