Had interview with human relations manager and was offered position as long as background check and drug testing were acceptable. I did not feel the HR person knew a lot about what was required for kitchen design.

Show genuine interest in home improvement / DIY or willingness to learn about it. Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) when answering behavioral questions. Be ready to talk about your availability (weekends, holidays) and how you function in fast-paced or changing retail environments. Even if the role is entry level, basic awareness of tools, departments, or how you would help a customer can set you apart. Prepare questions for your interviewer: e.g., “What does success look like in this role after six months?” or “How does the team handle busy periods like spring/summer?” Dress business-casual (retail appropriate): nice pants/khakis + collared shirt/blouse.
