The hiring manager didn't advertise the position until he was ready to hire me. He had my resume previously. The interview was not an interview at all, it was more of a recitation of the job requirements and some fluff about the company

Received an email from the HR representative regarding a PM opportunity at a major Army base. Had a lengthy and positive phone screen with HR. Scheduled a phone interview with a senior manager. The only time the senior manager could speak with me was on Sunday afternoon. I explained I had family plans at that time. The HR Rep reluctantly rescheduled the call for early Monday morning. The Monday morning phone call was 15 minutes late. Instead of the senior manager calling it was the HR Rep informing me that someone had been offered the position.
The senior manager emailed me a week later wanting to talk. I replied and heard nothing. I contacted the HR Rep who acted very irritated that I was trying to reengage.
Couple of thoughts:
- The Sunday interview was a red flag that this organization is not run very well
- The salary was shockingly low at $85K. I have an IT background as a retired Army Signal Field Grade. Fresh out of college/tech school cyber defenders are making more than that.
- The HR Rep appears to be covering for a poorly organized (or new) senior manager.
Do not recommend interviewing with this organization. The salaries are low, lack of focus on work/life balance and HQ staff seem disorganized.
