Entrevista
A couple days after I applied online the internal recruiter contacted me to setup a screening call with him. It went fine and he just had standard screening questions for me and was able to answer all my questions. Next I had a screening call with the hiring manager. Again, this went fine and she had standard screening and motivational questions for me, and nothing technical that I remember. Following that I was given a take home assignment, which was nothing too difficult (correlation analysis of gene expression data). A few days after submitting the assignment I was invited for an onsite at their Chicago office.
The onsite was about 3 hours and consisted of three 2-on-1 group interviews. The first included the hiring manager and they had some follow-up technical questions about my take home (e.g. how would I productionize it). Admittedly I probably did not do so well with their questions, but they both came off as very condescending and one even laughed at some of my answers. The next group was in contrast fairly pleasant. It was mostly just a casual conversion about them, my background, etc. They did drill down a bit into some things on my resume and asked a few more technical questions (e.g. what was my opinion on scRNA-seq vs RNA-seq for investigating heterogeneity). The third group of interviewers was a bit strange. One lady gave me this unmoving stare the entire time, but the other interviewer was perfectly nice. They had more generic interview questions (e.g. what do I hope to get out of this role/company). After the interviews, the internal recruiter gave me a short tour of the building and gave me a chance to ask any remaining questions.
About two weeks after the onsite I was told they were not moving forward with me. And 30 days after the interview I was reimbursed for my flight/hotel/food.
Overall, it was a strange and kind of negative experience. Honestly, I was wary of this company due to its negative Glassdoor reviews, but I wanted to give it a chance. Some additional things that were positive though were the interview being on time and the internal recruiter was pretty nice and communicative throughout the whole process.
