I was contacted by phone by one of the recruiters and they wanted to understand my resume before proceeding with an interview. They asked me where I live and when I mention that I live near one of the Swisscom offices the recruiter replied - "You must be rich to live in the city center". Right away felt very unprofessional, but I ignored and moved on. They asked a bit about my journey so far and then what my German skills were like. I said I can only communicate at a basic level (A1) and the recruiter said "You have been here for long enough, you should have learned it by now. It's a matter of wanting, but if you don't then you never will learn it. I got C2 in less than 2 years.". I would understand if he said that the company wants people with German skills, but his approach was once again very unprofessional and off-putting. Then the recruiter asked my salary expectations and I mentioned my current salary - as I'm doing a career change I don't expect to get paid more - and the recruiter said that "There are people from Eastern Europe coming here with 6+ of experience (I only have 2 years) and asking for just a bit more than you." What was the goal of telling this to me? Saying I was asking for too much? Or that they underpay people from other countries? The only positive thing he mentioned was that my profile was very interesting, but then said that "Python developers are a dime a dozen.". At the end, he told me there's a company and told me to apply there and that I could use his name as a recommendation. To me this is a strange behavior, because I don't know him and I applied for a role at Swisscom. This was the worst experience I've had so far and it makes me wonder what the culture at Swisscom is like.
