Me postulé a través de un reclutador. Acudí a una entrevista en Surgimate en jul 2024

      Entrevista

Step 1: A recruiter found me via LinkedIn and we had an incredible introductory call — she got me very excited about this potential opportunity Step 2: I was connected to an HR manager for another screening interview. HR manager was incredible and further made me excited about the opportunity. At this point, I was told that I was being moved to the next round — talking to the hiring manager. I also was informed that I would need to take an assessment. Step 3: I was tasked to take a 57-minute assessment through TestGorilla. While actively taking the assessment, I received a call from the HR contact informing me that the company doesn't think it's the best way to assess candidates for this particular role. I shared with her that I was in the middle of one of the sections (which was timed), and she told me to just finish it and then ignore the rest. I also informed her that I have ADHD and dyslexia, which often makes standardized/timed logic tests like this very difficult for me. She told me not to worry about that either because my background spoke for itself. Step 4: I got on a Zoom with the hiring manager. I have never had a more disrespectful job interview in my entire life. I don't think I've encountered a stranger in a professional situation who has been more impudent and arrogant than this hiring manager in my entire 13-year career. - She shared no information about Surgimate and its marketing team - She shared no information about herself, background, management style, creative beliefs, process preferences, etc. - She asked no questions about my career trajectory - She asked no questions about any function of the content marketing job per the description — not one single question - She asked no questions about my strengths, weaknesses, career highlights, etc. - When I had the rare opportunity to ask questions about her management style and team culture, she informed me that she operates by predominantly treating her employees subjectively — not objectively - When I asked questions regarding the team vision, collaboration, and overall workflow — I received no information from her. It was if she thought she was above answering any questions. The hiring manager brought up my poor result on the test assessment, implying that I have no attention to detail. I shared my perspective on the assessment and said that my comprehensive portfolio, references, writing samples, etc. speak for themselves and that while a test may not measure my attention to detail in an accurate way, my attention to detail has been one of the most consistent and success driving pieces of my career. In my opinion, the hiring manager had no interest in getting to know me or my background based on this assessment result. If the assessment result did not please her, I should not have been scheduled to have an interview to begin with. However, instead, she took the opportunity to belittle and discredit my experience. While she harped on me for seeming to have no attention to detail, I do want to point out that this is very humorous considering the Surgimate website has no consistent writing style across all its pages, there are content pages with clear errors ranging from misspellings to improper grammar, poorly edited/unedited live content, and there are broken links on multiple pages. Additionally, the LinkedIn page is riddled with messy, quality-lacking social posts. If you're going to double down on assuming someone doesn't have attention to detail based on a single assessment, you should probably ensure your own attention to detail is apparent in all external-facing content. Immediately after getting off the Zoom meeting, I informed the HR contact and the recruiting manager that I wanted nothing to do with this company moving forward. I would encourage ANY content marketing manager to RUN far, far away from this opportunity because if this is how the manager acts during an interview, I cannot imagine what it's like to work with her daily. Yikes.
