For a company interviewing senior engineers, this process appears vulnerable to individual interviewer bias and post-hoc justification rather than consistent, merit-based evaluation. I would be cautious about assuming that strong performance or relevant experience will be assessed objectively across the loop. This process felt optimized to rationalize decisions after the fact rather than to identify the strongest candidate.

Typical Bay area experience.. a positive, altruistic front that does an immediate 180 into a negative judgmental and dismissive experience. The recruiter was very positive and friendly. We both had 'you made my day better' vibes and setup an interview with the hiring manager. The interview with the hiring manager felt rushed as I think he thought we only had 30 minutes when we were scheduled for 45. He asked me two questions and it felt like he was annoyed the interview wasn't already over. The only meaningful question he asked me seemed to imply that without that specific experience I could never perform the job in any capacity.
