Got an initial phone call setting up a life story, had the life story interview and was called back in to meet the team. Between the closing date of the posting and receiving the offer was 3-4 weeks. I don't think I ever went more than 3-4 days without hearing from one of the recruiters.

Had a good phone screen with the recruiter after which I was encouraged to apply for another role that the team had opening up. We exchanged a few emails back and forth after which I was ghosted. It was disheartening to not receive the courtesy rejection message. I'd still like to work for the company down the road, but I'm really confused by their process.

How would you reinvent the program to be more people-centric?

Not sure what kind of experience they are looking for I had the exact experience necessary plus additional "assets" to the job so I applied. Two weeks later, I received a call from the recruiter for a "10 minute chat". All went well, pretty easy going and not really an interview. One week later, I received an email to come in and do a "life story" interview. Recruiter was all of 19 years old which would be fine except she didn't know the words I had used such as "adamant". How is a 19 year old going to judge whether I had enough experience in a job where she's never heard of most the of the requirements. Surprisingly, I received a call to meet the hiring manager and one of the "co-workers" I would be working with. Interview went really well; however, they didn't have my resume on had, forgot about the experience I had and wanted you to verbally describe your job experience. I was even told my knowledge, experience and attitude was perfect for Shopify. One week later, I received an email saying they were going for candidates with more experience. I've been doing the exact job for over 10 years already so I doubt experience had anything to do with it. It's too bad but I don't think they hire on experience or knowledge, I'm a 40+ highly skilled person and not a 19 year old and I had a feeling I was working against that.

Not too technical...where did you grow up? did you like it?
