      Entrevista

I read another review about the interview process for this role and had to add my own. The person who posted said that they were unprofessional because they asked for samples of former work. That's industry standard across all positions I've ever applied for. I provided mine happily and answered their other questions. It took me 5 minutes. It was not uncalled for or overreaching to request this. I had several interviews with the CEO and some other members of the team. It was a lovely interview process and everyone was extremely friendly and kind. It was very clearly a great opportunity and the only reason why I declined it was that it was a bit different than what I was looking for. However, I've done some freelancing with them since to help them with their immediate content needs. That's also been lovely. I've worked closely with the sales team and the CEO and they're all kind, lively, intelligent, and creative folks. I would recommend that people apply and work there.

      Entrevista

The very unprofessional hiring manager messaged me in LinkedIn asking me to send them long form writing samples without even a screening call or interview or anything saying they "didn't have time to talk to all the potential candidates prior to setting up interviews". That is literally your job as an interviewer, and came across as very inconsiderate of my time and just over all rude. When I nicely declined to continue with their process I received this message word for word: "I regret to say that much more experienced writers have happily complied with this process, so I will have to take the chance of passing by the opportunity to hire someone who may have lots of potentials." SO RUDE. Like you're not doing me a favour?? Huge red flag to how they treat their employees if they don't even show applicants any respect. Also, the job applied for was "Senior Content Writer" but the hiring manager kept calling it a copywriter position. Those are not the same, and again shows that there would be inadequate leadership. I would stay away.

We would like to see samples of your work, ideally long copy for SaaS or B2B companies (case studies, white papers, explainer documents, or scripts for videos or podcasts, press releases, or emails). Could you tell us why you want to become a sherpa and how you would tackle this challenge, knowing you would become Sherpa's first dedicated copywriter?

When applying for content and copywriting positions, one should expect to be asked to provide a portfolio and samples of their work and explain why they are the best applicant for the position and why they want it. So much so, that recruiting platforms systematically offer employers to ask for such documents when one applies. The job you applied for received over 200 applications. We only requested 15 applicants for their portfolio and a short cover letter. You are the only one who did not agree to go through the process, and some applicants were award-winning writers and had a lot more experienced than you. This process led us to interview only 5 applicants instead of wasting the time of 10 others. When you apply for a position within an SME, know that they don't have necessarily a dedicated hiring manager. In our case, we are team leads who hire people for our teams alongside all our other responsibilities. Time is of the essence, so when deciding if we'll spend our time prescreening dozens of people with whom we have little chance of crossing paths ever again or devoting our time to responding to our team members' needs, we'll gladly choose the latter again.
