I applied on craigslist for the position at SBM. I received an email over the weekend from their HR who arranged for an interview via phone. I got the call 15 mins. earlier than the stated time but I was prepared for the interview. The phone interview was conducted in a poor manner via loud speaker. The sounds would emit and echo back and forth. Fortunately, the phone interview was very short. The HR gave a brief intro on the position itself. I later learned that the position also entailed accounting experience. This was not mentioned on the ad. In fact the HR coordinator described a different responsibilities that were left out compared to the original ad on craigslist. She redirect her question and asked why I now think, I would qualify or be a good fit for SBM with no limited to no accounting exp. I felt this was a waste of time as their post fail to mention in the ad. She also knew beforehand that I had little or no experience in acct. Once the interview concluded, I was instructed they would only contact qualified candidates for an interview in their corporate office. I immediately thought that I did not qualify as they were looking for accounting exp/bkgd. At the end of the week, I received an email from their HR Manager to schedule for an interview. I had another scheduled appointment on the day. They were flexible and scheduled for the next day. On the day of the interview, I arrived 15 mins earlier. It took two calls over the intercom to ask the receptionist to buzz for entrance to the bldg. I took the elevator upstairs and arrived to a loft-like room with a chair & table on the side. The receptionist greeted me. She gave me a form to fill out and wait. I met the HR coordinator as well as the former administrator to be replaced. No explanation was given about the HR Manager's absence. The interview took no more than 15 mins. Basically just to go over my resume and experience. The position match exactly what I did in my former experience. They noted that I had the experience and skills. She also ask my salary requirements. I also noted it was negotiable. At the end of the interview, the HR recruiter told me, they would be in touch once they make a final decision with the hiring. They were looking for the candidate to start immediately next week. I waited, no response. The following week, I received an email from their HR Dept stating, they decide to go in another direction with the hiring. Blatantly put in HR terms, it means they've either hired someone else that they thought was qualified or fits what they're looking for. Or the salary or overall was just not what fits their bill. This was my initial thought until I saw another posting on craigslist for an Office Assistant. The position is completely different from their original ad for the administrator. Overall, the whole experience was cordial but unprofessional based on other interviews that I've been to. There was a lot of mismanagement in terms of scheduling and movement with emails in addition to irrelevant questions which was a waste of time. The turnout rate seems to be higher if the case is they're hiring an Office Assistant (receptionist) in addition to replacing their former administrator.
