Phone screen then live coding project. The live coding project was absolutely ridiculous. You have an hour to hit an api, render it as a list, then tap something on that list to open that in a detail screen. I think my interviewer might have been tougher than other ones, because he made me start from scratch, despite me setting up a small boilerplate app before hand. We spent most of the interview fumbling through dependencies and writing boilerplate than actually solving the interview requirements or talking design patterns. The interviewer was not interested me in explaining any trade offs, maintainability, or testing, but was more interested in my solving the problem as hastily as possible. I was rushing most of the time while making steady progress and wasn't even close to solving the problem. Not sure how anyone is supposed to pass this interview.

      Entrevista

Recruiter contacted me through LinkedIn and scheduled for 1st round - technical interview, which was based on Android. Setting up interview was easy. But the actual interviewer was very bad, didn't describe the question properly, no guidance or help during the interview, didn't talk a word!

      Entrevista

I interviewed with Robinhood about five months ago. After the initial HR call, I was asked to complete a live Android coding exercise from scratch, which involved building a simple app to display a list from an API. Following that, there was a virtual onsite interview with deep-dive discussions, system design, and Android topics. I’ve signed an NDA, so I can’t share details of the interviews themselves. The Android coding task was done using Jetpack Compose, and it felt a bit unusual, as it required doing something that isn’t typically practiced in advance. Overall, I had a positive experience. The recruiter was very supportive and clearly guided me through each step of the process, and all interviewers were polite and professional. Although I didn’t receive an offer, I genuinely enjoyed the interview process.

      Entrevista

I recently had a technical interview experience and wanted to share some constructive feedback. Before the interview, the recruiter, Zobia, shared a PDF with clear guidelines. It mentioned ensuring Android Studio was ready, creating a new project beforehand, running it on the emulator, and even adding commonly used Gradle dependencies in advance. Following these instructions, I prepared an empty project with the dependencies I typically use in day-to-day development. However, during the interview, I was asked to create a completely new project from scratch and add all dependencies manually by searching for them online. I requested to use my prepared setup and personal notes (which I maintain for version references), but I was advised not to use them. Due to version mismatches and fresh setup compilation, around 20–25 minutes were spent resolving Gradle and build issues. As a result, I could only complete about half of the assigned task within the one-hour timeframe. I fully understand that interviewers may want to assess practical setup knowledge, but there seemed to be a mismatch between the pre-shared guidelines and the expectations during the interview. Clear alignment beforehand could help candidates utilize interview time more effectively and focus on demonstrating their development skills. Overall, the process was professional, and I appreciate the opportunity. I hope this feedback helps improve the candidate experience going forward.
