Extremely Irritated and A Complete Waste of My Time. This interview has left me so frustrated. I would not recommend that anyone should ever apply to River Island, nor will I apply ever again. The 'assessment centre' consisted of two tasks. 1) "Tell us briefly about yourself and what you know about River Island": This was the only chance for the candidate to tell the interviewer anything about themselves (job history, etc.) in front of 20-25 people. If you didn't feel comfortable reciting everything about you in front of a complete set of strangers, then you've lost your chance at the job. Especially to those who do not like speaking in front of large crowds. There was no 1 on 1 interview, nothing. This was really it. 2) "Get into groups and give examples of good and bad customer service": The way that the interviewer introduced the task led everyone to produce a similar circumstance -- shop floor selling. He spoke about upselling and cross selling, which is most likely to occur on the shop floor. During group discussions he left the room, so he did not get to hear group discussions or planning. After everyone 'performed' he said that everyone did a terrible job and he was "disappointed" that everyone did the same thing, and rather blaming himself, he put that on the candidates. After this, the interview was finished. This was a very poor interview, and from someone who has been to assessment centres before, this was not conducted properly. The interviewer was in a foul mood and honestly did not care about what he was doing. I'm disgusted that River Island would ever allow this, especially from their Oxford Street store where you would think that they would put more care and effort for such an important flagship? I'm disgusted and will never apply to River Island again. I will also be sharing my experiences and telling other not to bother wasting their time applying.
