      Entrevista

I interviewed at the same company as the previous person and had a totally different experience. The only thing we seemed to have shared is that we both waited for a few minutes and that it was a busy office. First of all, I was grateful for the opportunity to have an interview, with Rogers and other major media companies laying off thousands of journalists and editors, this is a crowded marketplace. The interviewer was direct and asked lots of questions, which I liked as it got straight to the point. She also asked me about the traffic of my previous website. I thought it was perfectly normal and have been asked the same question at almost all the interviews for an online position. As well since most major website's media kits are posted online, they already provide that info. The interviewer also took the time to show me something on my resume which I should have been stressing. I really appreciated that and have now rewritten the resume to highlight an achievement. The interviewer also was honest in saying that she didn't feel the position was the right fit for me and again I was grateful for the honesty. We agreed to stay in touch and I am hopeful that there might be an opportunity for the future.

      Entrevista

I would like to start off by saying that I'm pretty sure I will not be receiving an offer for this position, since it was evident it really wasn't me they were interested in to begin with. Let me explain. When I walked into the office, there was already somebody waiting for their interview, so I assumed that they were running late. This was later confirmed when another appointment after mine came early, and was told to leave and come back. I waited for approximately 10 minutes before the person before me was called in. She was in there no more than 8 minutes before she was walked out. Red flag #1. I was called in next, but the coordinator who was leading the interviewees in and out of the office did not even know my name, and had to ask before taking me to the manager's room. Red flag #2. The manager greeted me and dove right into questions about my work history once I sat down. I thought that was pretty normal, but her tone reflected that of someone who was doing an interrogation as opposed to a job interview. I still answered her questions accordingly. As the interview progressed, it became clear that I had been called in because of her interest in the places I've worked at... not my experience at these places. Questions were asked about intern-hiring methods, the number of unique visitors my previous employers received in a month (which I told her I didn't remember), and how the companies I worked at monetized their content. Nothing was asked about how I could have contributed to their successes/processes. Things got even worse when she started mentioning details of my resume that were very incorrect. This was when I knew she spent no time reviewing my resume prior to the last 5 minutes. The interview ended abruptly with her mentioning that she had 40 interviews to do and that she will definitely contact me ... if... ...yeah. . (she literally trailed off). I was given a copy of their magazine as a "parting gift" and was sent off -- no handshake or "nice to meet you." I wasn't given the opportunity to ask her any questions. No mention was made about the position at hand. She literally called me in to ask me to divulge information about my previous employers (which I didn't), and when she failed to get this information, I was sent away. The entire process took no more than 10 minutes. I find that it's extremely unprofessional for her to have wasted my time like this, and I'm sure, for her purposes, I wasted her time as well.
