      Entrevista

I met with the "hiring manager" who seemed as if he had not looked at my resume. I was called by HR almost immediately after submitting that resume. While meeting with the manager, he briefly described the job but didn't ask me any questions about my work experience or credentials. After seeing I was slightly interested in the company, he invited me back for a follow up interview where I was to meet several members of the team for a round of questions. I showed up early for that meeting and was made to wait 20 minutes past the scheduled time. Not only did I not meet the team, it was only one person. She did a little more explaining of the job, briefly asked me a single question "what is your ideal career?" After which i was surprisingly offered the job. I asked for details of the compensation and was basically told it was $400 a week which was well lower than what the job description listed. That would all come from "performance" - basically a sales job and not marketing. No benefits were offered. I was told i would receive an offer letter, but never got one. The company was in a nice building downtown Tampa, however they were painting the office and were said to be moving to another location. The whole atmosphere seemed like a ponzi scheme, or not a real company. I have never been to an unprofessional interview or felt like I had wasted my time before in the past. I still don't know if they ever looked at my resume.

Our hiring manager is not a fan of resumes due to the fact that anyone can put anything on a piece of paper. He appreciates the value of measuring an applicant’s personable traits. As the positions we are hiring for are in event marketing, we review our applicants on their ability to interact and communicate face to face. Our first interview is a simple meet and greet to access your background and interpersonal skills. You must have discussed your background with our manager as you were invited back for an additional interview. We conducted several interviews last week in which only a few individuals were invited back to go forward with the interview process. Yes, with our most recent expansion we are moving to our office space to another location in downtown Tampa that is twice the size of our current location. Unfortunately, the day that you attended your second interview the building notified us short notice of the regulatory maintenance. Our lead client is one of the world’s largest charitable organization and is one of the highest rated nonprofits nationally. We apologize that the position was not a fit for you, however, the position does meet the needs of over 25 representatives we currently have. We hope that you find what you are looking for.

Overall this interview and process were pretty disappointing. After reading the position description, I was lead to believe this job would entail assisting in event coordination for various charities and local businesses and hands-on execution the day of the event, In reality, you are expected to stand in various locations around the Tampa Bay area and solicit donations for one charity, Childhelp. Upon entering the building and finding the leased office, I was greeted by a receptionist that asked me to sign in and fill out a paper application you would expect to fill out when applying to a fast food chain. After waiting in the front room for 10 to 15 minutes, I was called into a separate room by the interviewer and founder, Mark. The whole interview lasted about 15 minutes to my dismay. He greeted me and asked if I had brought my resume and filled out an application. After handing that over, he asked what skills I possessed that qualified me for the job. I went over my experience, etc. Mark told me that this position had a great deal of room for growth and then essentially explained that I would really be working a table outside of local Chick-fil-As and Sam's Club's asking for donations and for passers-by to purchase a backpack from me to give to children. He asked me if I was still interested at this point in the interview. At this point, I was trying to be polite and professional. I explained to him that I was a recent graduate looking to jump into my career and that I would have to weigh my options post-interview. Mark then surprised me by asking me how much I made at my current job. He then spent the rest of the interview trying to prove to me that I could make more by working for him. Mark continued to insist that he doesn't waste his time with just anybody, but that if I put in the work, I should be making over $100,000 by next year if I am promoted. Okay. To be honest, the majority of the interview was spent with him crunching numbers on the back of my resume insisting that I could make a serious profit. Mark explained that if I moved up, I would be in charge of these same Events Assistants and profiting off of them. The whole experience seemed like a pyramid scheme. It was a waste of the $12 I spent on parking for the day. At least I got a good taco nearby their offices afterward. I was weary walking in to the interview after trying to research Mark's "company" and finding so little information online. The company website is inaccurate and looks like it was built by a middle school student. This promotional group can't even hire a professional to convey a good social media presence. The company claims to do charity work, sell smart home products, and work in telecommunications, but it's just a sales front for Childhelp. I felt like the interview would at least be good practice walking in, but it didn't even live up to that. Please don't waste your time.

We apologize for your negative experience in interviewing with us. The division we were hiring for at the time of your interview was for events with a nationally recognized 501 C3 endorsed by many notable figures including Ronald and Nancy Regan, John Stamos, and Shaquille O’Neal . Their mission is to spread awareness and treat child abuse as well as put backpacks filled with essential items into the hands of children who are entering the foster care system. I assure you that this charity would not contract with any “pyramid scheme” and apologize that that is the impression that you had. We do partner with many locations to events and backpack drives throughout the area, including local small businesses that are the hearts of our community and believe in the cause. The application you were asked to fill out is required by law in Florida as verification of citizenship. Many businesses have a similar format or other questionnaires as verification. This charity is 1 of 4 national clients that we represent. All earnings and compensations vary drastically between the different clients and position All of the information on our website is accurate and updated. It lists who we are contracted with and what we do. I am sorry if you felt misinformed in that regard. Additionally, if you took the time to research our social media you would see that we have regular postings and presence. Our social media account is run by one of our staff who has obtained a Masters degree so I assure you they are highly professional. Good luck with all your endeavors and as a recent graduate- we hope you find exactly what you are looking for. Best regards, Mark
