I had two calls with a recruiter, followed by a first-round interview with a VP, which went well and included fairly standard questions. After the interview, It took quite a while to hear back. I was finally asked to complete a timed writing assessment with a three-hour turnaround. After submitting the assignment, I was told they were seeking someone with experience in a specific area - something they had known from our very first conversation that I didn’t have. It was frustrating to go through multiple steps and invest significant unpaid time, especially during working hours, for a role I was apparently never aligned with from the start. The process from my first call with the recruiter to my rejection email took 3 full months.
