I had heard good things about Progressive through a friend, so I filled out an application online and received an email from HR a few days later requesting I complete an online assessment. The assessment took about 45 minutes and consisted of basic math problems and customer-service scenarios. It wasn't difficult, and was actually a breath of fresh air compared to the personality assessments most companies use. The next day I learned that I passed the assessment and was ready to move onto the phone interview. The call lasted thirty minutes and the recruiter was very friendly. She asked mostly about my work history and then more specific targeted interview questions. Basically, the S.T.A.R. format asks you to set up a situation you experienced from a past job and what results you achieved through your actions. It was a comfortable interview overall. HR emailed me two days later to schedule an in-person interview with the manager. At this time you also need to fill out some preliminary paperwork online for HireRight, the company conducting your background check. This is fairly extensive and takes about a week, as it's a full verification of your employment and criminal history. Next, I met with the manager, who was quite cordial, definitely a manager I would enjoy working for. We established rapport quickly and talked for an hour and a half about my career history and then he asked some more S.T.A.R. questions. It was a very relaxed, enjoyable conversation. He answered my questions clearly and thoroughly and I never felt nervous or uncomfortable. After the holidays, I received a call from the recruiter with a job offer.She was incredibly friendly, answered all of my questions, and followed-up with a detailed offer letter. I start training in the office at the end of next month and then I go to Cleveland for more training. Progressive is a great company and their hiring process shows how much they value their employees. Just be yourself is the best advice.
