Asked in for a 3 hour assessment which covers:
* Database modeling and SQL similar to the employee, department model.
* SQL questions using that data model which are so large as to be difficult to work up on paper when anyone with experience has been using SQL tools most of their life.
* XML component to the test which consisted of some basic questions about XML and XSD and a lot of XPATH queries against a supplied dataset which is designed with the same tags at different levels in the model to catch out those trying to rush.
* A process flow question so you will need to remember all the flow charting you haven't done in the 10 years since university.
* A PL/SQL component which anyone with 12 months experience should do well in except that some of the questions are either very poorly worded or were put together by someone with limited PL/SQL design experience.
They time the assessment which is silly because the assessment is designed to catch people out people who rush but the right candidate should invariably take longer to complete the test because they will check their work.
A week later was asked in for an interview with the GM and a technical staff member who asked a number of open ended technical questions expecting singular answers. How long is a piece of string type questions. Asked questions using non standard jargon acronyms and generally made me not want the job despite having broader skills and double the experience of the interviewer.

Assessment SQL:
What is the employee with the lowest salary for each department where the employees salary is greater than the average salary for the department.
Assessment Process Flow: You are given an XML file with media data and 5 statuses that map to 3 internal statuses. Draw the process flow that you would use to process and validate the XML, including error handling and notifications both internal and external and finally be updating the media item in the database.
Interview: Asked a lot of open ended questions without defining scope or context for the question and expects singular answers to those questions. If you have a lot of experience you will understand that there are many answers to the questions asked (how long is a piece of string type questions). The interviewer doesn't seem to realise this and I put it down to lack of experience on their part. Check online for the resume of your interviewer before attending an interview.
Interviewer uses non standard jargon acronyms in questions without realising and has limited exposure to different technologies and therefore doesn't understand the different design methodologies that are born out of the differing technologies that you will have worked with.
