First step was completing an interview with a 3rd party interviewing company, Karat. After that, was a 45 minute conversation with the hiring manager. Then a take home, where I got to complete a backend implementation of a game. At the onsite, I discussed my design with the team, had a few pairing sessions to implement, and a few more discussions with various employees across engineering, product, and design.
I had a really great experience, and honestly, this offer was one I was very, very excited about. Ultimately, it wasn't the right time to leave my current job, otherwise, I would be working here. The team was really great and I was extremely impressed by the hiring manager, VP of engineering, and other members of leadership. Culture seems fantastic as well, and I really appreciate how mission-driven the company is.
Thank you so much for taking the time to interview with PicnicHealth! While we are bummed to know you won’t be joining us, we are glad our mission, team and culture were a highlight of your interview experience!

Recruiter was very helpful and friendly throughout the whole process! I applied end of August and wrapped up mid October, so is a long process but they do a great job being transparent and give good chances to get to know the team and company. The interviews were fairly straightforward and more focused on problem solving and communicating your work. Technical interviews were around the same concept of a game, behavior questions were around ensuring culture fit and understanding past experience, and there was a presentation to present some of your past work to the team. In general, the people were great and the work sounded impactful!

Technical interviews focused on implementation of different components of a game (from scratch, implementing/debugging an API in existing code, ideas around relational data).
Process was:
- phone call with HR/People
- phone call with CTO
- take home exercise
- onsite
Overall the company and people I talked to were all extremely nice. They were very accommodating of my schedule, gave me a good sense of the interviews, and were transparent and timely throughout the entire process.
The take home + onsite are fair and do a good job of letting you showcase your skills in whatever way you think you can do that most effectively. There's also a good amount of pair programming which gives you a good feel of what it'd be like to work with them day to day.
PicnicHealth seems to be full of really nice people who are mission driven around healthcare. And they all seem to be friends with each other which is a great bonus.
Thanks for this insight into your experience interviewing with our team. Glad to know you felt welcome and that you had enough choice in the process to make sure you were demonstrating your skills. I wish you all the best wherever you end up!!
