      Entrevista

      I applied for the Member Retention Coordinator job in December and interviewed, once via phone and twice via a video conference system, for 3 months. I will say that each interviews (I had 3) were very robust and individualized. I guess that's their "artisanal hiring process." The first phone interview was 30 minutes and the two video interviews were an hour or longer. Each interview was with 3 people. I will say that the process was very educational. It did challenge me to reflect on why I would be a good fit for the role, and forced me to question why (if I do) I enjoy working in public media. In hindsight, I feel there are two cons to the whole process. 1) The second interview was ended without any mentioning of how/when I might hear back after which OPB went silent on me for nearly 3 weeks before coming back and asking for me to do another interview, and to complete an assignment. 2) Assignments. The two video conferences were precipitated by assignments that were quite complex and with minimal instruction. I put a lot of work and thought into those assignments, and some of my ideas and suggestions were taken positively. I can't help but feel they got some free work out of me. I imagine this is a good place to work, with a genuine culture and challenging tasks.

      Here's one of the assignment tasks: Take this list of donor data, decide how to separate the donor records into five groups, and then craft a two sentence message to each group to be used on a piece of direct mail. Be prepared to discuss your reasoning and your justification for why you made the choices you did.
