Worst interview experience I had in years!
- HR set an entirely wrong expectation of the interview. From their invite email: "Thank you for sharing your availability. We are excited to confirm your Video Conference Interview on the Android Developer position. Our hiring team will meet and discuss with you to understand your experience and aspirations, at the same time to help you further explore the potentials and prospects to grow with our team and organisation."
I was expecting interview with hiring manager, not a technical Leetcode interview.
- Interviewer came to interview very unprepared (from their WFH outfit, question preparation).
- Interviewer introduced 2-3 sentences about himself, let me introduce 2-3 sentences, then without acknowledging and/or further communication, moved straight to Leetcode question.
- Interviewer was unprepared for the interview question. When being asked to explain the output and give an example optimal result, he did not know how to answer and spent 5-10 minutes trying to find out on the spot. Ended up I found an example before him.
- Interviewer did not respect interviewee's time (BIG RED FLAG IN COMPANY CULTURE). The interview was scheduled for 1 hour, the interviewer used up the whole 1 hour for technical part (I'm an interviewer at my current role myself, for an 1-hour technical interview, interviewer needs to wrap up at least 10 minutes to spare some time at the end for interviewee asking questions. Ideally end before 5 minutes to respect interviewee's time in case they have back-to-back meetings). I reminded interviewer at 10-minute & 5-minute marks but interviewer ignored and continued. When I reminded at 1-hour mark, interviewer told me he had no other meeting and can continue, asking me if I could continue at the time (without prior heads-up). I responded that I was busy and could not continue, he said bye and ended the meeting.
- Eventually, since the coding part took the whole 1 hour, I did not have chance to ask any question as mentioned by the HR: "...at the same time to help you further explore the potentials and prospects to grow with our team and organisation".
