My acquisition of the assistant management job came about through my previous manager at a full line Nordstrom store, where I was a sales associate, so it is not typical of a candidate from outside the company. My department manager let me know that my store manager had been contacted by the rack store manager about an open position, and that my store manager had mentioned that she thought I would be perfect for the job. I was eventually contacted by the rack store manager, and set up an interview for the next day. In the interview, I first met with the department manager of the department I would be working in. He asked me questions like: - tell me about a really great customer experience you've had - tell me about a difficult customer experience you had? how was it resolved? - why do you want this job? - what are your ambitions with the company? I then had a quick more informal portion with the store manager, where he explained the rack as a family, and detailed how in such a fast paced environment, each employee has to be able to rely on everyone else in the store and vice versa. He then asked if that was an environment I would thrive in, to which I said yes, and then after a tour of the store and an introduction to some employees, he let me know he would talk to me in the next day or two.
