I applied to New Masters Academy for their Assistant Video Editor/Production Assistant position (later changed in the written offer to Video Editor/Production Assistant) on a Thursday. Within a few hours, I received a message from the founder of New Masters Academy to set up an interview for the following Monday. The interview/tour of the office took place between myself, the founder, and one of the resident instructors, which went well and lasted about 45 minutes. I was offered the position over the phone the next day and asked if I could start as soon as possible, which I agreed to pending a written offer. The following day, I received the offer in writing from the company’s Operations Manager, to which I replied asking some questions regarding the hiring process and attempting to negotiate my start date and salary, as I was instructed to direct any questions of that nature to him because he was the person to whom I would be reporting. The company had offered me well under the typical pay rate for the position I was offered, and wanted to pay me as a contractor for the first 90 days when I would have actually been a full-time employee, which I have since learned is very much illegal. My offer was then abruptly rescinded in the middle of the night via email by the founder. This company has made it very clear that they are looking to cut costs wherever they can and are looking for someone of whom they can take advantage.
