AI interview for the first round that was behavioral but pretty specific and not a fun experience. Think we all prefer speaking to a real person. Decently hard to come up with examples in the moment as they were not prototypical behavioral questions.

Don’t waste your time applying to National Grid. I applied for the Graduate Development Program and was invited to complete a HireVue pre-recorded interview. Right away, I had a bad feeling. The platform stated that AI would be used to evaluate my responses, which raised red flags. Still, I gave it a shot and took the time to complete the interview — only to be met with a generic rejection email not long after.
What really frustrated me was the irony of that rejection email asking me for feedback, when they couldn’t be bothered to offer any feedback in return. Pot, meet kettle.
To top things off, the email also mentioned I’m now barred from applying again for six months. So not only did I waste over an hour preparing and recording answers for an algorithm, but I’m also penalized for bothering to apply in the first place.
As long as National Grid continues to rely on impersonal, AI-driven hiring processes, I won’t be applying again. Interviewing should be a two-way street — this felt like a dead end.

Started with an initial application then got sent a few skills assessments and had to complete a pre recorded interview. After passing those you get invited for a final interview to decide offers.
