The extensive essay writing process at the outset was “self-selecting,” to say the least. Fast paced listening was one way to characterize the initial interview. I made it through the screening and was asked to submit a task, which, like other interviewees, was sample script writing and lesson planning. It took many more hours to complete with confidence than they asked. Like others, I wanted to do well so I willingly spent more time. As a former teacher, I know a ho-hum plan can be generated quickly. An excellent plan, say for a job interview, takes time. And, like others, I got a boilerplate rejection response and couldn’t help but think that they had just gained a bunch of free work from my effort. But, the position I interviewed, for it never came to fruition.

WHAT A SCAM!!! Please don’t waste your time applying here… they post jobs to get free lessons and ideas from qualified candidates with no intention of hiring anyone. Here’s what happened to me: Since I had 10+ years experience in the field of education and content creation, I thought this company would be a good fit for me, and I for them. However, as soon as I entered the interview with the manager, I could tell something was off. He only asked me one question about my background, and the rest of the conversation was about him and his role. He told me the team was on a tight deadline, then proceeded to have me “get to work” and essentially write some of their lesson plans and give ideas on the spot. I understand that some hypotheticals are normal for an interview, but it felt like he was sourcing ideas and inspiration since they are so behind in their task creation. Then, it got weirder… At the end of the interview, he told me my next task would be a written one then warned me, “No one ever makes it past this stage.” Again, I found this to be really strange. Despite my intuition that something was not right with this process, I took the next two days creating an amazing lesson plan for them, and I even included extra materials. I went above and beyond the requirements and even turned in the assignment early. As soon as I emailed my final copy, the manager responds that he wants me to reformat it. I was confused since I followed the directions he had given me on the call and even went the extra mile… I kindly responded that I would tweak my assignment slightly to accommodate his notes, but I think what I produced was right on the money. I then became certain that they never intended to hire anyone… I think this is their process to get free work from qualified candidates. Sure enough, five days later, I get a “thanks, but no thanks” general reply. I’ll be checking their website to look out for the lesson I wrote for these crooks!!!!

The hiring manager only asked me one question about my background, then spent the rest of the call talking about himself. He also asked me to create lesson plan ideas on the spot… this didn’t seem like a normal, hypothetical interview question either… he was definitely sourcing ideas.
