Me postulé en línea. El proceso tomó 2 semanas. Acudí a una entrevista en Morningstar en sep 2024

      Entrevista

Went through four rounds of video interviews and submitted an unpaid written assignment. First interview was with a NYC-based editor. From our conversation, it was apparent that they did not include the Canadian website in the job listing (an oversight). I was not impressed with this editor in how he rushed his words as he spoke. Appeared as though he was unprepared. Second and third interviews were with a reporter and another senior manager, both Stateside. Both were pleasant to speak with. Final interview was an informal chat with the first editor. Who wore just a t-shirt for a video interview showing a lack of professionalism and respect for the candidate. In all of my interviews I made the effort to wear a jacket and dress shirt. The Toronto office has not had a reporter since mid-2024 as the current editor is on medical leave (did not find out if this was job-related) and last "editorial manager" left early in the year. Did an unpaid written assignment which was a number-crunching exercise (using ChatGPT LOL) rather than actual writing and reporting. Did not receive an offer. Or even hear back over a week after my last video interview. Online research shows salary would have been $50k-$70k Canadian and they were looking for at least 2 years experience - so this was an entry-level position. A closer look at the bio of all the writers for this organization shows that people with humanities degrees are writing about business. And the CFA's on the staff got them from industry jobs prior to joining Morningstar. Four interview rounds was excessive. This company is also hiring for a "Head of Canada" position which tells you it has no strategy or overall leadership in this market, making Toronto a satellite office.
