      Entrevista para Sales Associate

Me postulé en línea. El proceso tomó 1 día. Acudí a una entrevista en Macy's en jun 2011

      Entrevista

I applied online for a position in Women's Shoes. About four days later I received an email that I was invited to schedule an interview. I selected online from several times and had to change my time once. The interview itself was an okay experience. The executive who interviewed me was nice but it started off awkwardly because she was only asking me about my availability. She said that I had indicated that I was not available to work on Saturdays but I told her I was. (I saw the paper later and it turns out she was reading it incorrectly, which I figured since I knew I had input all day availability for Saturdays.) Since I did not have prior experience in sales/retail, a lot of the pre-selected questions did not apply to me so a lot of the interview was awkward while my interviewer skipped around on the list of questions. After she asked me all of the questions she could, she informed me that the position I was interviewing for was not actually a permanent position in Women's Shoes, that it was on-call and that I could be working in different departments every day. She asked me if I was okay with this and, desperate for any job, I said yes. This concluded the interview and the interviewer asked me if I had questions for her. I asked why she likes working for Macy's and she said she likes that the company really cares for its people. We then had a nice, comfortable conversation about the store and the company, everything from how she worked her way up from a sale associate 20 years ago to the dress code. She offered me the job on the spot and said that even though I do not have sales experience she could tell by my smile that I would have a good attitude and would be good for the position. Then I did about an hour and a half of online training and filled out some paperwork. One of the managers gave me a hard time because at the time I lived six hours away and did not yet have a local address. I told her I was meeting my landlord that afternoon but she still acted like I was stupid for trying to get a job in a city I didn't live in yet (I saw the apartment that day and now I'm writing this from its living room). Though I am glad to have any job in the present economic state, I wish I had known going in that I was interviewing for an on-call position rather than a permanent position. It would be much easier to make sales and provide the best customer service if I had time to settle into one department and really learn about the merchandise. In general the human resources staff seemed somewhat apathetic and they were not the most helpful people. Given the fact that I now have a job and that the process was fairly quick and easy, I am giving this experience a neutral rating.

      Pregunta 1

What would you do if you had been helping a customer for awhile and they were about to buy a large amount of merchandise from you, then you had to find something for them in the stockroom and when you came back another employee was helping them and had also found a large amount of merchandise for them (given that associates have sales goals and are paid on commission)?

      Pregunta 2

What if you had to work in different departments on different days? How would you prepare?

Was interviewed for a seasonal position. Was told they have no seasonal positions, once they found out I was a college student. Made no sense to me quickly ended the interview.

      Entrevista

The interview process was straightforward and fairly quick. It started with a phone interview from a recruiter or hiring representative who asked general questions about my background, availability, and interest in the role. The tone was professional but conversational, and the interviewer focused on making sure I could handle a fast-paced, customer-facing environment.

I had one interview with the store manager and it lasted for about 45 minutes. The interview was all standard behavioral questions. I was offered the job on the spot.
