Rigorous Process, Invaluable Learning Experience
Pros:
The interview process started exceptionally well. The initial contact was direct and fast, leading to a first conversation with one of the founders within days. This round was a positive, high-level discussion focused on mindset, problem-solving approaches, and cultural fit, which I appreciated.
The second stage was a substantial technical assessment. It's a challenging case study that requires significant preparation and forces you to learn their platform on the fly. For anyone who enjoys a real-world technical challenge, this part of the process is engaging and a good test of practical skills.
Cons:
The final round with the CEO and COO shifted focus entirely from technical execution to a deep dive into my career history and narrative. While this is a perfectly valid approach, the transition can be jarring if you're not prepared for it. There were also moments during the assessment setup that felt a bit disorganized, with some initial details being unclear. However, as an engineer, adapting to ambiguity is part of the job.
Advice to Management:
No major advice. The process is demanding, which is appropriate for the high standards you're setting. Clarifying the structure of the final interview round beforehand could help candidates prepare more effectively and present their best selves.
My Interview Experience:
Overall: Positive Experience
Difficulty: Difficult Interview
The Process: I had three rounds. After the initial chat, I completed the take-home technical assessment, which took me approximately 15 hours. The final round was a conversation with the executive team.
This was my first formal interview process in over six years, and it was an invaluable learning moment for me. After excelling in the technical round, I had not prepared sufficiently to articulate my career story and motivations at the level the executive team required. I personally fell short in that final conversation.
My advice to future candidates is this: acing the technical assessment is only half the battle. Be prepared to dedicate equal, if not more, time to preparing your personal narrative and articulating the "why" behind your career choices for the final round. Lleverage is looking for the complete package: elite technical skills combined with a clear, confident story. While I didn't get the offer, I'm genuinely thankful for the experience and the lesson it taught me.
