I was contacted via email by a recruiter, we chatted a bit and the guy had actually read my resumé. We then scheduled a chat with two team members, during which we talked in general about development, processes, preferences in working. It was all in a light mood. Then I did a quick online code test using Kattis, the test was focused on algorithms, but in a down to earth way, no weird arcane questions. Together with that there was a longer code challenge, which I don't remember exactly what it was. Then another chat with two team members, this time with some live coding. Focusing on writing a bunch of very straightforward functions, but with a few gotchas along the way. Again, nothing too weird, just cautions that any developer will end up learning with time. After that they flew me to Stockholm, where I stayed for four days. I had a friend pick me up at airport and we took the train into the city; the hotel was exactly three minutes walking from Klarna's office. I got to get there with time to get the jet lag fixed before the interviews, and also enough time to check out the city. The in loco interviews were all very friendly, first some code refactoring together with two team members, and chatting about preferences and sharing stories. Then another couple interviewed on the process of putting a project up, going from language decisions to deployment and scaling strategies. We had lunch then. And then talking with the team manager to discuss more personal stuff and career paths and things like that. It all went smoothly and friendly, and it is clear there's a lot of focus on team fit. In the meantime between interviews we took a walk around the building, and it looks quite good. All code aspects of the process focused on general code and development matters, not caring about any particular tech stack, which is a big plus on my view. Also, everybody work hard on selling you Sweden as a country, and in affirming the multi-culturalism of the company. All considered it looks like a very good process, and it was stress free.
