I interviewed twice - several years apart for the same open position. I believe that once they realized I was in my late 50's, the interview was over and turned to a formality promising a "next step" but went cold for no reason. The interview focused on the accomplishments of the interviewing manager, his accomplishments and how wonderful a job everyone thinks he is doing. I listened intently but was taken back with his arrogance. I never received any dialogue saying "thanks for interviewing but we have awarded the position to someone else" and good luck. I believe if someone takes the time commitment to interview, the least the company can do is follow up with an email thanking you for your interest in their company.
