Once I applied to Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions through their ad listed in Craigslist (emailed resume and cover letter to the address provided), I received a phone call the following Saturday. However I was not home, and they did not leave a message. That should have been the first clue. I called them back once arriving home (within twenty minutes of the time they'd called) and spoke with a student advisor named Rachel to schedule an interview. She was very amicable. Interview day: Lasted approximately twelve minutes. The "Center Manager" Teresa Ashton wasn't planning on hiring me in the first place apparently, since she "had my cover letter, but didn't have my resume." They were sent together in the same message. I shouldn't have received a call back if all of my information hadn't been received. Kaplan shouldn't even have been able to call me if they hadn't at least seen the resume. It was just all very odd. The questions in the interview were trite and aimed at younger interviewers (ones who may have had less professional experience). Despite the job description which included assisting teachers in the classroom as the main focus, the primary roles of the Student Advisor would be to "man the office" and do paperwork and filing. I was not adverse to that, but knowing what the true focus for the particular office was would have helped me better prepare for the interview. I had too much experience to be working under the two lady interviewers (women similar to me in age - that is, mid- to late-twenties), and shown by their lack of expression and lack of interest in my achievements.
